The ReinventingLife.org website
Thanks for visiting reinventinglife.org. This is the web home of E. Alana James, and like all homes, it has to certainly purposes although generally everything here belongs together. I am an expat from the US living in a picturesque fishing village on the southern coast of Ireland. I spend my time writing and working with doctoral students. In preparation for A book that will be published by SAGE publishing in 2010 much of the new material for the site this fall is likely to center on participatory action research for business.
My "niche" is education, professionally and as a specialist. This divides into two parts: 1) as I write, lecture, and facilitate an international project on the Future(s) of education, and 2) in facilitating doctoral dissertation work. I gain as much value from the generalist side of my life as well, and much of the writing on this site focuses on the general topics of reinventing your life, your community or your world and the ideas and processes that support those changes. Because I do not and cannot separate the specialist and the generalist in myself I do not separate them here.
Under the ideas that drive change heading, I write on:
· my current research
· global and cultural awareness, this section includes a growing number of articles I call the Mind the Gap series, having to do with my growing awareness of how cultural differences interact with communication and connection between people
· complexity and disruptive innovation,
Under the processes that drive change heading, I write on:
· participatory action research, both for education and business
· service opportunities that may change the world
· health and wellness processes
· all things related to reinventing your life and your work to
Under the work & life/myself &others heading, I write on:
· concepts and ideas on which I enjoy speaking
· personal bits from my life as an ex-pat in Ireland
· other people contribute to this navigation space as well and there is a place for funny videos
Last but not least, I spent a good portion of my time working as an independent college professor for a number of universities who have an online presence. One of my favorite things is to help mentor people who are reinventing their lives through the doctoral dissertation process. This results in the doctoral students participatory group thread. If you are, or know someone who is, in the process of writing a dissertation there are collection of tools and ideas here along with a social network that is slowly developing between students.

Discover; An Attitude of Gratitude
Written by
admin
One of the important things to remember as we reinvent our lives is that we MUST stay grateful. This powerful energy connects us to the abundance around us, keeps us humble, and helps smooth out the quirky paths caused by human downfalls such as greed. This video is one of the most beautiful we have seen on this subject - please take 3 minutes and enjoy it. Meanwhile let me offer words of gratitude for the friendship and connections of all who read and use the tools of this website. It is your interest that propel us to keep finding great tools such as these.

What I learned from Weight Watchers : How to Improve Time Management
Written by
Alana
As any who know me are aware, I have struggled with weight loss my whole life. Thus I have done a couple of rounds with Weight Watchers (and I respect the organization a great deal, I learned a lot). However the BIGGEST thing I learned from WW was something entirely different – How to improve my time management skills.
In WW you are asked to write down everything you eat – its amazing how consciousness helps. Seriously, just looking at what you are eating, knowing you will have to be accountable to yourself for it makes it much easier to “just say no.” More importantly it allows you to feel success over the little things....want to know more? follow the Read More link below

Reflect on "How to Reinvent Your Life?" One Step at a Time
Written by
Alana
It feels like it is time for a quick blog post to share what has been happening. The short answer is: “A lot!” It seems that the universe once again has me reinventing my life! It's amazing how, with the right background and foundation we can make life changing decisions so quickly and easily.
In my pursuit of the dream that in 10 years my passive income will pay my bills I have begun to strategize on what types of things (other than royalties from my books) will creaate passive (or near passive) income?
I started by making a forward thinking video of rolling affirmations and pictures.....(want to know more? folllow the readmore link below)

Discover a New Way to Deal with Stress
Written by
Alana
Step 1: DiscoveryThere is stress and then there is tension, the trick is in being able to tell the difference. To our body they are very similar – all stress – the difference is in how we hold them in our minds. This article explores this premise.I am a teacher, and a lifelong learner. In recent years, I have taken on several steep uphill learning curves, such as learning to live in a new country, learning advanced technology, etc. Consistently I noticed that great tension is felt just before a breakthrough in learning and understanding.

Discover SOUNS for Literacy
Written by
E. Alana James
One thing we know for sure when we ask the question: “What do our children need for the world they will inherit?’ is that literacy and numeracy will be on the list. At the recent Rotary international convention I discovered a tool for early early childhood literacy that seems outstanding – outstanding because it is simple and easy to engage with. SOUNS (written purposefully without the D because that is the way people hear the word) are big letters and will work in any language that uses the Latin based alphabet.

Reflection from our Puppy
Written by
E. Alana James
Hi – waggly tail here – you won’t believe what they named me! Lord Peter Whimsy! It’s after some guy in a book. Listen I sure hope all of my litermates landed in a spot as cushy as I got. I inherited a whole pack. There’s Harriet who I live with (took her a few days but now she warmed up to me and now we play like you and I used to), Wellington and Leopold (the two Bassets), Nera (almost my size which is cool), and Monty (a Golden who I want to grow up to be JUST like).

Discover Training Options
Written by

After a year of research many things have emerged about the future(s) of education. Alana will start "taking this show on the road," facilitating groups in person or virtually, and discussing or presenting on the world of ideas that add up to new designs for education. It is time that more people were discussing, "What do our young people need to thrive in the world they will inherit? A world we cannot imagine." This is added to the work she does starting and facilitating groups who want to address complex issues using participatory action research.

Discover Tools to Reinvent Yourself!
Written by
Administrator
Reinventing yourself is the energy behind this website. In whatever ways we work to improve our world, our communities or our lives, this website should have something of interest: a) Personal blogs from Alana, Margie and Friends, b) A doctoral participatory group, or c) Stories and news articles about the world we live in and the work that supports us. Look for the Measurable Action Headings in the title as a clue that this article contains a tool for growth and improvement.
