E. Alana James, MNM, Ed.D has worked in a blend of education and non profit or NGO work for two decades, often using community based resources to aid educational activities and develop programs high risk populations. An expert in transformational curricular development and the uses of distributed content as a useful aid in training and professional development, she works with NGO’s internationally. She engages with audiences of all types when she speaks on her research in online education where she provokes substantive conversation about the similarities and differences of teaching online rather than a face-to-face venue.
Alana designed and was the primary facilitator for the national “Web Based Professional Development Project,” sponsored by the Colorado Department of Education, the National Center for School Engagement, and the Center for Research Strategies, LLC. Participants in this 5 year project were 140 school administrators, teachers and community members in 15 states, using participatory action research (PAR) as professional development to study and develop programs for students experiencing homelessness and high mobility.
Alana, completed her doctoral work at Teachers College, Columbia University in educational leadership and recently finished a textbook: Participatory Action Research: Data driven decision making for school leadership for Sage Publications. While her work has been featured in numerous journals and she speaks internationally on the subjects of educational disadvantage, distributed learning and the use of PAR to help communities solve complex problems.
